The remainder of the book is devoted to accounts of the agriculture and fruit culture of southern California, a region almost unknown and just now opened to settlement by completion of several lines of railroad; and which by reason of its fine healthful climate, its rich soil, and its remarkably varied products, deserves the attention of farmers looking or pleasant homes and cheap fertile land, combined with a climate the best, probably, in the United States.
